Who It's For

CARFAX for Repair Shops and Mobile Mechanics

At the front counter or in a driveway, CARFAX works the same way in RedAppy.

CARFAX for Auto Repair Shops

Look up the plate at check-in, check the CARFAX service history before the car goes in the bay, and let paid invoices report themselves to CARFAX each week.

CARFAX for Mobile Mechanics

RedAppy runs in your phone’s browser. Look up the plate in the customer’s driveway, see the CARFAX service history, and quote the job on the spot.

Know the car before it hits the lift

Start Every Job Informed

Check what was done and when before the car goes on the lift, so you know where to look.

Write Better Estimates

See when the last oil change, brake job or tire rotation was done and recommend what is actually due.

No More Mistyped VINs

A plate is short and easy to read. CARFAX turns it into the full VIN, so the vehicle record is right the first time.

Your Work on the Record

Reported services join the CARFAX service records for that vehicle, without any extra steps from your team.

FAQ

Questions About the CARFAX Integration

What auto repair shop software has CARFAX built in?

RedAppy is auto repair shop software with CARFAX built in. You get CARFAX license plate lookup, a CARFAX VIN decoder, CARFAX service history for any VIN, and automatic reporting of your paid work to CARFAX.

Do I need to sign up for a CARFAX account?

No. RedAppy sets up CARFAX for your shop, so there is no separate account to create.

How do I look up a vehicle by its license plate?

Enter the plate and the state or province when you add a vehicle in RedAppy. CARFAX finds the VIN, and RedAppy fills in the year, make, model, trim and engine for you. If the VIN could be more than one trim, you pick the right one from a short list.

Which license plates can I look up?

You can look up plates from all 50 US states, Washington DC, the US territories and the Canadian provinces.

Is there a VIN decoder built in?

Yes. Type or paste a 17-character VIN and RedAppy decodes it with CARFAX, filling in the year, make, model, trim and engine on the vehicle.

Can I use CARFAX as a mobile mechanic?

Yes. RedAppy runs in your phone’s browser, so you can look up a plate in the customer’s driveway, check the CARFAX service history, and quote the job on the spot.

How do I see a car’s CARFAX service history?

Open the vehicle in RedAppy. You see the service records CARFAX has for its VIN, newest first, with the date, mileage and work done, plus when each type of service was last done, like the last oil change. Shop names are not shown.

Why don’t I see any CARFAX history for a vehicle?

Make sure the vehicle has its full 17-character VIN. If it does, CARFAX may not have any service records for that vehicle yet.

How do I report my repairs to CARFAX?

You don’t have to do anything. Once the work is done and the invoice is paid in full, RedAppy sends it to CARFAX in the next weekly report, and the invoice shows the date it was reported. The vehicle needs a full 17-character VIN.

Can I choose which invoices go to CARFAX?

Yes. Reporting is on by default, and you can switch it off on any invoice you don’t want sent. You can also turn CARFAX reporting off for your whole shop in Shop Settings.

Put CARFAX on Every Repair Order

Look up the plate, check the history, and let your paid work report itself.
